Women’s 8-week Empowerment Program

In just a minute, experience the joy and jubilation experienced by 10 women, as they embarked on an 8 Week journey with On My Feet and trained for a 10km Women’s Classic event. Many of these women were survivors of domestic violence and all had been at risk of or experienced homelessness. Having attended three training sessions and one workshop a week, and with mentoring and companionship, we measured significant decreases in the women’s level of depression, anxiety, stress and loneliness, as well as amazing improvements in their personal well-being, cardiovascular fitness and resting pulse. Tools used, were the scientifically robust DAS21 questionnaire, the UCLA loneliness survey and the Personal Wellbeing Index Measure. Several women lost a few kilos of excess weight. Most importantly, they became a tight-knit and empowered group of friends with 4 of the 10 having now successfully returned to work.
